This is the difference between technology to improve the vehicle, and technology for technology’s sake.
My preference: Needs & wants
Speedometer, Tachometer, Fuel gauge, Cruise control, FM Radio, Aux jack, Heating/Air (a KNOB please) Defroster, Turn signals, Hazard lights, Windshield wipers, Auto headlights, High beams, Power windows/seats/locks, Clock, Idiot lights, Backup sensors, Interior lights
I’m on the fence about heated/cooled seats and radio presets
My gimmick: Never gonna use it, or only used once out of curiosity
0-60 timer, Sport mode, G-force meter, Power/Torque meter, Traction control on/off, Massaging seats, XM Radio, Sound equalizer, CD input, Navigation, Voice controls, Car phone...anything other than the preferences.
Let’s not fight about what we “need” because remember: If we all had the car that we need , that would probably be a Prius-thing...which would be boring...unless you like Prius-things.
That said...this is the car that I need .

I can’t be the only one here who turns my traction control off to have some fun and then turns it back on the rest of the time.

I might do it sometime, I’m too young to press it now!

Being a bit of an audiophile, sound equalizer is definitely on the want/need list. Heated seats as well, but not cooled seats. If I have traction control, I need to at least be able to turn it off for snownuts a few times in the winter.

I leave mine off all the time. Mainly because I don’t have it.

Traction control on/off could be useful useful for people who want to do track days, and sometimes there are instances when you’d want either to be able to spin the driven wheels or to have control over the power output without electronic interference.
XM Radio is great for cross-country drives.
And it’s nice to have integrated sat-nav so I don’t have to fumble with my phone while I’m driving. Bonus if it projects turn information onto the windscreen.

My M3 and my iphone aren’t really ever on consistent speaking terms, so when I need nav, I use idrive. Since I use my iPod for music in my car, if I was to use the nav on my phone, it’s commands aren’t being played over the stereo system, plus the in dash screen is a lot less distracting than my phone. As far as the traction control button goes, lets just say the M3 likes to slide about. DSC off, fun mode on.

As someone who lives in the Northeast and drives RWD sedans in the winter, I can assure you that traction control switches are a necessity.
Having a sport mode switch is a huge help in stop-and-go traffic. In my XJ8, if you turn off sport mode, it defaults to second gear starts, so you don’t go jumping forward when you hit the pedal (it also makes the car easier to drive in slipper conditions). Plus it makes the car shift less aggressively, which is fine when you’re going to be stopping again in twenty seconds at the next light anyway.

Satellite radio is nice, heated (and I imagine cooled) seats are nice, but I hate “sport” modes. I want my mini to always be in “sport” mode because otherwise the throttle response sucks. I would rather there be an “eco” mode or have it selectable with a switch so that I can set it in sport and forget about it. I do like how they let people tailor a car’s characteristics rather than pander to one audience.

Gotta get those extra 2 seconds going up the on-ramp! Can’t have any electronic assists slowing you down!

I turn it off only when I wish to get slidey

As do I, otherwise, there’s little reason to turn it off. It has gotten me out of the snow before. The TC would actually cut the power almost entirely, so it didn’t stand a chance in hell of escaping stickage.
